About the Project

Project Title - Arushi Learning Platform

Project Duration - 3 Months

Roles - Researcher, UI/UX Designer

Made in correspondence with Vancouver Film School Graduate Project.

Behind the Name

The word Arushi (aa-ru-she) is a Sanskrit word, It is the feminine form of the word ā€˜arushaā€™ (aruį¹£a, ą¤…ą¤°ą„ą¤·).

All though it has multiple meanings, the one I align the project with is : One who is brilliant or radiant (ą¤†ą¤°ą„‹ą¤šą¤®ą¤¾ą¤Øą¤ƒ ą¤…ą¤°ą„ą¤·ą¤ƒ).

An age old misconception and cultural element in a lot of Asian countries is the indication of the ā€œone size fits allā€ rule, If one student can do it why canā€™t everyone else. In reality, this just doesnā€™t pass, as each student universally studies in their own unique way, and most of the time that is not how they are taught in school, The first step to building a learning platform for all students is to remove all inhibitions of ā€œOne size fits allā€.

Design Process

  • Interviews, Ethnographic research, User Profiles, Experience Map

  • Data Points, Affinity Diagram, Mental Model, Goals and Motivations

  • MVP features, Card Sorting, Competitive Analysis, Wireframes

  • Paper Prototyping, Low Fidelity and High Fidelity Wireframes.

  • User Tests, Miniature Tree Tests, Further ideation based on user tests.

Qualitative Research

I interviewed a group of students split all around the globe and asked them to talk to me about the biggest issues they face in everyday learning, I learned how each student tackle these issues differently. I was able to identify the pain points through this. I focused more on gaining information from casual talk points to prevent bias.

Ideate Phase

User Experience Map: Helped Elucidate all loose ends and provide clarity in movement.

Empathy Map : Helped to enter the mind of the user, and understand the patterns.

User Flow : Helped to figure out the movement from start to end.

Final Findings and Design Treatment.

I was able to understand that students are really struggling to cope with heavy memorization and retaining all that information, to aid them I decided to employ learning styles in my platform. With the help of the learning style test, students would be provided with personalized content, employing learning styles can also improve the learning experience and reduce time spent searching for materials drastically.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

  • Since the platform is meant to be used to students, I made it super easy to navigate and use.

  • I decided to go with earthly tones for the design of the platform, since blues and whites are pretty common.

Testing Phase

I decided to start the testing phase with the intention of seeing how usable the platform is, and to detect any early points of pain that if not detected early could cause the whole project to fall short.

From the user test, most users complained about the onboarding process not allowing them to leave, which I mended. Apart from the that Users mentioned that usability was pretty smooth and simple to understand. One pointer a bunch of users noted was about how they would have loved this product back

Final Mockups

The Future of Arushi

I will continue to adapt and ideate new features for Arushi, I hope to turn it into reality one day, I will continue to mend and improve the project.
